- The slats were laid and secured.
- The mattress went on and the frame was pushed to the wall.
Platform beds need no box spring: the slat spacing carries the mattress, so every slat is fastened, not only laid in. Solid wood frames are tightened again after the first weeks of use, when the joints settle; it takes a few minutes with the same tools.
