A ceiling had an open box with bare wires hanging out of it. The after photo shows a round flush-mount light fixture, switched on.
Typical steps for this job
The photos show the start and the finish; these are the usual steps in between:
- The wires were checked with the power off.
- A mounting strap was fixed to the box.
- The fixture wires were connected to the existing ones.
- The fixture was mounted and the glass shade fitted.
Replacing a fixture on existing wiring is our everyday work; adding a new light where there is no box or circuit goes to a licensed electrician. Before any fixture goes up, the breaker for that circuit is switched off and the wires are checked with a tester, not only the wall switch.
What a job like this costs
Electrical is billed by the hour: $100 per hour with a 2-hour minimum, and the price is confirmed with you before work starts. With a list of tasks you can book time instead of one job: Hourly Handyman at $100 per hour (2-hour minimum), a Half Day of up to 4 hours for $399 or a Full Day of up to 8 hours for $749 (Half Day and Full Day).
