A white six-panel interior door had a long crack running across its lower half. In the after photo the door hangs in its frame, whole and white, with no crack in sight.
Typical steps for this job
The photos show the start and the finish; these are the usual steps in between:
- The crack was checked to see how far it ran through the door skin.
- The door was fixed so it hangs without the split.
- The surface was finished in white again to match the trim.
- The door was swung and latched to check it closes cleanly.
Hollow-core interior doors crack easily when they are kicked or hit by a doorknob. When the damage is large, a new slab cut to the old one is often quicker than a repair; the hinges and the handle move over.
