Typical steps for this job
The photos show the start and the finish; these are the usual steps in between:
- The wall was patched and smoothed.
- The first strip was hung against a plumb line.
- The next strips were matched at the stripes.
- The edges were trimmed at the ceiling and at the wainscot cap.
Stripes show every tilt, so the first strip decides the whole wall. Wallpaper also needs a smooth, primed wall under it: every dent and patch shows through a thin paper, and stripes make them easier to spot.
